Scouting for hares

Ahead of our upcoming 'Hare March!' I took a stroll around the Burpham area this morning as a recce, to get a feel for which fields are most popular with these charming animals at the moment.

I wasn't disappointed. Despite the suboptimal conditions, I found several Brown Hares grazing away, with some rather close views. There were some good birds too, with Bramblings at the farmland feeders, Red Kites a plenty and displaying Lapwings. Some fine-looking Mediterranean Gulls were mixed in with the other gulls. On the way back to the car, there was a field of Fieldfares, Redwings, Mistle Thrushes and Song Thrushes.
