Sunshine finches

It was another beautiful winter morning, calm, cool and bright. The harsh, yet subtle, sounds of Hawfinches and the bizarre notes of Bramblings echoed through the woodland in the South Downs, as did the now ubiquitous cronking of Ravens. A Great Spotted Woodpecker landed close by and drummed -- the first drumming I've heard this year -- and Fieldfares and Redwings flocked together. The lichen-covered branches were popular with busy Marsh Tits and Great Tits. A couple of Buzzards argued over territory but the nearby Red Kites weren't fussed...
