Wryneck

It was another rewarding morning at Cissbury Ring today. After enjoying a flock of 50 Yellow Wagtails by the car park, we had a couple each of Redstart, Whinchat, Spotted Flycatcher and Tree Pipit, plus a Wheatear.


The outing became especially memorable when George noticed a Wryneck fly out of the crater by the western yew. The trail went cold for some time but I eventually relocated it some way towards the trig point, where it was feeding in the long grass and low brambles. A sought-after bird anywhere, this was my first in the local area, and definitely a highlight of the autumn so far...
